Round off your trip with local excursions, train at altitude, get to know the local running community and discover the magical Kenyan culture. Take part in a running camp where you don’t have to worry about a thing and discover all that Kenya has to offer.

Day 1: Arrival at Eldoret airport and transfer to Iten
After arriving at the small airport of Eldoret, you will be welcomed by our driver at the airport. Then we drive to Iten. After about an hour’s drive, we arrive at the ‘High Altitude Training Centre’ in Iten. You will get to know the facilities of the training centre and we will take some time to go through the programme for the week and discuss what awaits you. If you feel like it, you can take part in an easy run in the afternoon. Then it’s time for the first dinner together at the camp.

Day 2: Start of the training camp
The first training run in the morning under the guidance of our coach.Breakfast at the training centre.We then visit St Patricks High School.We are given a guided tour of the school and take a look at the school museum.St Patrick’s High School is regarded as the best running school in Iten.This is where the legendary Colm O’Connell trains young athletes who are among the fastest runners in the world. Olympic medallists and world record holders (such as Wilson Kipketer and Ibrahim Hussein) also laid some of the foundations for their running careers here. After returning to the training centre, lunch awaits and the afternoon is at leisure. You have the option to do a second run or go to the gym/pool if you wish. Dinner at the training centre.

Day 3: Rift Valley viewpoint & Kessup waterfall
We start the day with a morning training run under the guidance of our coach and pacemakers. Breakfast at the training centre. After breakfast we will visit the viewpoint in Iten to enjoy the magnificent view over the Rift Valley. We will also hike to the nearby Kessup Waterfall. Lunch at the training centre and then time to relax. A Kenyan athlete will visit us to answer questions – a cool way to interact with a Kenyan athlete and a valuable experience for any runner. Dinner at the training centre.

Day 4: Boat safari on Lake Baringo
We leave the training centre early (before breakfast) and drive to Lake Baringo (approx. 3 hours drive). We take the boat and visit 2 of the islands in the lake. We will see crocodiles, hippos, giraffes and many different species of birds. We will also visit the hot springs on one of the islands, which is one of the few active natural hot springs in Kenya. After the boat safari, we will have lunch at a nearby hotel. After lunch we will stop at the ‘snake farm’ for those who dare. Then it’s time for the return journey to Iten, where our dinner awaits.

Day 5 – 10: Running camp & other activities
We start each day with a guided training session, a non-running activity / excursion and some free time.Some of the excursions/activities include an insight into local Kenyan athlete life – get an insight into the demanding training programme that the top runners go through on their way to international greatness.Meet the people who spare no effort to become record-breaking runners.Walk to the Kamariny track, the first athletics track in Iten, where many world champions and Olympic champions have trained.Visit the local primary school.Children in Kenya are friendly, enthusiastic and love tourists!Take part in lessons with the teachers and pupils and experience ‘back to school’ without having to do homework. See the giraffes near Iten. It may be fun to see animals a t the zoo, but seeing them up close in their natural environment is much more impressive. Recharge your batteries in Singore forest – a green sanctuary with tall trees, exquisite wildlife and fresh air. Bugar Forest is called ‘Singore’ by most runners because it is very close to the village of Singore, just outside Iten.Visit an athlete’s home to experience Kenyan hospitality and get an intimate insight into the daily life of a Kenyan athlete.If you have burning questions and want to expand your running knowledge, you can participate in Q&A sessions with experienced Kenyan runners throughout the training camp.Also visit the local market in Iten.Farewell dinner at the Iten Club restaurant (last evening) And much more.

Day 11: Lake Nakuru Safari
We leave camp in Iten after breakfast (it’s about a 3 hour drive to Nakuru).We will have lunch at the Safari Lodge in the National Park, have some free time to relax by the pool and enjoy the view, and go on a game drive in the afternoon.Dinner at the Safari Lodge

Day 12: Lake Nakuru Safari
Early breakfast at the lodge and game drive through the national park.Nakuru National Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including rhinos, giraffes, lions, leopards and many other animals.The national park is also famous for its huge flamingo population (up to one million at times) and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
After the game drive, we leave the park and drive back to the camp in Iten.

Day 13: Last day of the running camp
We start the day with a morning training run under the guidance of our coach. Breakfast at the training centre, then free time. Lunch at the training centre and then a non-running activity (from the list above), farewell dinner at the Iten Club, which is located next to the training centre.

Day 14: Farewell and departure
Today is your last day in Iten. Depending on the flight schedule, you can take part in one last morning run and after breakfast our driver will take you to the airport in Eldoret for your flight to Nairobi.If your flight is late in the afternoon, you can relax at the training centre and use all the camp facilities while you wait for your transfer (including lunch).
